South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Bronze Youth Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20220110

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 10 January 2022

POSITION: Tangalooma, Moreton Is

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

Today we boarded South Passage at 0830. Everyone was sorted into watches, and we met our amazing watch leader Justin. After making our bunks and learning to use the head, we first learnt how to belay on a pin using 0s, figure of 8s and hitches. We practiced removing and applying the portside backstay. Just after 1000 we departed port and raised the headsails, the jib and staysail. On the way to our destination, a buoy fell overboard, and we had to perform a man overboard procedure.

After raising the sails, we went onto the bowsprit then after being shown the galley and eating lunch, we practiced tying knots, including the figure of 8, reef knot, round turn 2 half hitches knot and bow tie knot. We spent the next hour and a half practicing tacking, in circles. At around 2 we started our watch and rotated through jobs such as: lookout, deck check and helm. After this, we performed a one watch tack.

Once we arrived at our destination, Tangalooma, just off Moreton Island we lowered the sails and jumped off the ship and went swimming in the ocean,  and attempted to kiss a mermaid. After swimming, we did a knot competition and we came second! We had dinner and wrote our logbooks. After having a short amount of sleep, we woke up for our 8-12pm watch. We filled out a booklet during our watch and went to sleep!
