South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Redlands College / Silver Youth

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210921

FROM: Manly to Hervey Bay

DATE: 23 September 2021

POSITION: North White Cliffs, Fraser Is

REPORT BY: Red Watch

We had a late start (0630) which everyone was extremely happy about aside from red watch who had to wake up at 0400. We were served another delicious breakfast of hash browns from the amazing Hugh before we set sail from Double Island Point. Crossing Wide Bay bar restarted some seasickness but luckily nowhere near as bad as yesterday. It was a rough ride but before long we were past the worst and heading through the protected waters of Fraser Island. We saw heaps of dolphins and whales while taking turns relaxing on the bowsprit. Everyone got a turn at the helm, steering the ship through calm but very narrow waters.

We then finally arrived at North White Cliffs at 1400 where we released the anchor and we allowed to go to shore. The highlight of the day was definitely our trip ashore with different groups doing various activities. A few of us stayed on the beach while most decided to hike. Half of the walking group ended up on a 4WD track while the other made it to Kingfisher resort! While we were at the resort we found our way to pool and spa and got some good R&R. After taking a dip in the pool, we made our way back to the beach following the sun as direction just as Stevie Wonder told us. Our sunset beach walk was happily interrupted by Gary on the Tender who came to pick us up so we didn’t have to walk the last 2kms.

Once back on board, everyone played a couple chaotic rounds of Phase 10 before getting another delicious dinner of Pork Chops from Hugh, Thanks Hugh! Since the weather cleared up this afternoon, the sunset was spectacular over Hervey Bay. Hopefully it will be another good sleep since we are in a nice, protected Bay.

What’s better than Day 2?
