South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Sail and Walk Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210711

FROM: Townsville to Townsville

DATE: 11 July 2021

POSITION: Magnetic Is

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

This morning we rose early and took our breakfast up on deck, to beautiful still waters with the sun rise reflected on the water, together with all the masts from the various sailing boats in whose midst we were.  It was really great to eat breakfast and watch the early glow of the rising sun reflect on Castle Hill in Townsville. As the Blue watch members received their instructions on raising the Jib and the Stay sail, all the groups worked in sequence and South Passage moved out into the waters heading for Magnetic Island.

It’s great to bond well with your watch members through the day as you learn the ropes – literally! With gentle winds we enjoyed the sail. Louise kept us well fortified from the galley and we set off for the island for a walk up to the Fort. En route we all gathered  around one tree taking photos of a Koala as he gazed down at us. On the return from the fort, late afternoon we spotted many Agile Wallabies as they came out to feed.

All in all a fabulous day, getting to know the others, from down in Tassie to up here in Townsville, some who have sailed before and others for whom it was a brand new experience. The crew have made it a really special day for us all, so a BIG thank you.
