South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Mareeba State High School

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210619

FROM: Cairns to Cairns

DATE: 19 June 2021

POSITION:  Fitzroy Is

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

Firstly, we woke up early and drove down to Yorkey’s knob, Cairns. Our first impressions of the boat was that it was pretty small from a distance however when you got on the boat it seemed substantially bigger. Although there were a few people sick on the way to our first destination (Fitzroy Island) it was pretty fun learning all the ways you sail a boat.

The first things we learned were the round turn and the two half hitches using a rope, followed by a few other things before we set sail. As the Blue Watch, we were tasked with setting up the head sails, Jib and Stay sail.

Once we had pulled up to Fitzroy we had a quick swim and some fun jumping and dive bombing off the boat, after we all packed up from having a swim the dinghy got dropped down into the water and took us to shore. After we had a few ice-creams we got driven back to the boat and finished off the arvo with a knot tying contest which was then followed by dinner. This brings us to our first anchor watch.
