VOYAGE NUMBER:  20210309

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 10 March 2021

POSITION:  Big Sandhills

REPORT BY: White Watch

The day started with white watch cleaning the brass on the helm at around 0600. We had our night shift that started at 0400 and went until 0800. Cold breakfast was cereal and juice. Later, we had hot breakfast which was hash browns and spaghetti on toast. We then got all our sleeping quarters tidy and got changed to go across to the beach.

We had anchored near Tangalooma Hotels the night before. In trips, we went across in the rescue boat to the beach, and in watch order red, white then blue for snorkelling around the shipwrecks. The shipwrecks were covered in barnacles and coral with thousands of little fish swimming around. We saw a wobbygong shark, a turtle and an octopus. Once all the groups had finished snorkelling, we came back to the ship, washed off and had lunch which was burgers.

After lunch we got the ship ready to sail again. Everyone took their part in hoisting up the sails and preparing the main deck. It was white watches duty from 1200 until 1500 and at this point, the winds had picked up quite a fair bit, and we had to change direction which meant we had to tack the ship. After tacking, white watch took our positions for the next hour. When our watch had finished, blue watch took over, while white rested. After a while, we were woken up and were called upon the top deck. It turned out that the ship was travelling too fast and we had to anchor and pull down the sails. We had sailed to Moreton islands sand hills, and were sleeping there for the next day. White watch were in charge of taking down the front two sails, the jib and the staysail.

After that, dinner was being prepared while we had our next knot competition, which was the figure of eight knot. Blue won the comp, with white just a second behind and red finishing last. After the knot tying, we took it in watches to get our dinner which was sausages, mashed potatoes, corn and green beans. We took our dinner up to the main deck to eat, and then came back to rinse our plates. After that, we got our beds tidy and changed into pyjamas. Some were playing cards on the tables and others were up on the deck. 2130 was then lights out.
