South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Volunteer Training Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  2020302

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 2 March 2020

POSITION:  Big Sand Hills, Moreton Is

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

We cast off at 09.35 with Skipper Phil deftly employing the long line off the wharf and out through Manly Boat Harbour. Blue watch raised the head sails. We were then stood down to rest until 1400 hours and enjoyed a hearty lunch. During our watch we rotated through the various watch positions covering all aspects of tacking and corresponding back stay settings.

In light conditions we eventually made it to the Sandhills off Moreton Island, dropped sails, coiled all lines and dropped anchor at 1600. The new swim ladder was deployed and the keen amongst us went for a swim.

Knot practice followed by the South Passage knot competition created some excitement with the result a dead heat between all three watches. A chicken and veg dinner prepared by cook Cath followed and then an interesting talk from Skipper Phil on the mysteries of navigation. Blue watch divided into two groups to keep watch till midnight. All is well.
