VOYAGE NUMBER:  20230910

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 12 Sept 2023

POSITION: New Farm, Brisbane River

REPORT: Blue Watch

After a beautiful breakfast of bacon and eggs we set the main sail, while the other watches set the other sails.  It was a crisp and clear morning with a moderate breeze. We headed downwind to the Brisbane River and some of the crew saw a turtle. Three ladies were on the bowsprit relaxing while the rest of us were working hard managing the gybes.

Once entering the Brisbane River, we saw container ships and a P & O cruise liner. There was a yard that we could smell pine, which we learnt were pine chips to be exported. There was also a coal yard that we presumed was for exports as well. There was a lot of water traffic before we approached Gateway Bridge so had navigate carefully as the channel was narrow.

We then tied up at New Farm Park and most of the crew had high hopes to get a coffee at the nearby Power Station Café, but to our dismay we were unable to attain our coffee as soon as we hoped.  We were dissatisfied with our predicament, so with the help of google maps we were able to locate areas to purchase our chosen beverages.

We made our way back to the ship feeling content, satisfied and relaxed and ready for our next destination. We cast off and headed further upriver passing under the Storey Bridge.  We were all relieved to pass under without the mast hitting the bridge, then found out we had 8 metres clearance but it did look way closer than that!

As we motored down the river, we saw people abseiling the Kangaroo Point Cliffs and people enjoying the river side (walking, running, scootering etc). We anchored down the river from the Storey Bridge and enjoyed a yummy chicken and vegetable stir-fry made by the amazing Louise. The evening was concluded with another great desert and talking about our highs and lows of the day with much frivolity.
