South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: St Philip’s Christian College

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20191121

FROM: Sydney To: Sydney

DATE: 21 November 2019

POSITION:  Rose Bay, Sydney Harbour

REPORT BY: Blue Watch V4

Our group left at 4:00am this morning to go to Broadmeadow train station to attend the year 8 sailing trip. The South Passage arrived at 9:00 from Darling Harbour and immediately picked us up and sailed towards Sydney harbour where we would learn the basics. Meanwhile we were given our Watch numbers, shown our bunks, how to pack them, how to make them and packed our gear away.

After practicing escape through the emergency hatch, the skipper and sailing master gave us briefings, then we were shown our sails and began hoisting the sails. We sailed for the day up and down Sydney Harbour and while Blue Watch was on watch we did seven tacks. We then dropped anchor at Rose Bay and swam off the ship.

We then had a knotting competition which was a dismal failure for blue watch but we will be better in the future. After dinner everyone was so tired that by 8pm lights were out and everyone was asleep except poor blue watch which practised a knot for tomorrow, took bearings etc while on watch. Our group really enjoyed the meals and can’t wait to have more.
