South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20200928

FROM: Hervey Bay to Manly

DATE: 29 September 2020

POSITION:  Inskip Point

REPORT BY: Red Watch

The day began at anchor in Platypus Bay. We raised sails and set our sights on Kingfisher Bay, which we reached earlier than expected at 2pm after beating up the channel in a series of tightly timed tacks. En route crew sighted turtles and a whale. Impressively, Red Watch won the figure 8 knot tying competition in a speedy 20 seconds. After a shore break at Kingfisher Bay, featuring a dingo sighting, an amusing insight into off road Segway tours and a relaxing drink looking out over the water, we returned to the ship.

The next leg of the journey took us to Boonlye Shallows and down through the Great Sandy Straits. We navigated the straits in the fading light and continued to sneak past mangroves and sandbanks as the moon rose over the still waters. We anchored at Inskip Point late evening, ready for an early departure across the bar in the morning.
