CLIENT: Bronze Youth Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20241006

FROM: Manly To: Manly

DATE: 6 October 2024

POSITION: Tangalooma

REPORT: Red Watch

At the beginning of the day, Red Watch went monitoring the ship from 12am – 4am.  Behind Peel Island, we had a thought-experiment to deduce whether we should have drifted and if the boat was in safety position. We then rose at 6:30 am, gaining new knowledge by tying new knots and working the backstays. We then had a knotting and backstay competition before breakfast. Red Watch had a win for the backstay activity while White Watch had a win for the knot competition.

We manually raised the anchor using the capstan. We motored away from Peel Island to raise the sails using the halliards. We were on watch taking the helm, doing navigations and keeping on a lookout while also making a tack.

While adventuring, we explored whales diving with a wide range of skills. There were also turtles, which fascinated us with their shells full of very unique patterns, some lines were horizonal and others were vertical.

At lunchtime, there was a feeling of hunger, while another feeling of adventure. Claps to Cath the cook! The sighting of a migration of unique marine animals while sailing was a significant part of our activity for these three days.
