CLIENT: Somerset College

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20260906

FROM: Hervey Bay To: Manly

POSITION: Inskip Pt

DATE: 7 September 2026

REPORT: Red Watch

Today was an awesome but challenging introduction to sailing. We started our sailing journey right outside of Hervey Bay, in which we were woken up at 12am for our night watch shift. We took bearings of the ship position with authentic compasses and learned about the important elements of the South Passage

After going back to sleep, we were woken up yet again at 0630hrs with the sound of a bugle played by a fellow classmate. Hugh, the best chef ever, then made us both hot and cold breakfast options to start our day while we enjoyed a knotting competition between groups.

We then hoisted our sails and tacked our way over to North White Cliffs on Fraser Island. Here, we jumped off the ship and enjoyed exploring the beach. We then got back on the ship and had a delicious dinner as we watched the sunset while heading towards the open ocean. Overall, it was an amazing day.
