This morning began early at Whitehaven beach – where we raised anchor at 0615 – silently sneaking past the party boats to Solway Pass. We waited for the tide to rise and took the opportunity to have some warm pancakes at anchor. Again we were off, passing by a pod of humpback whales.
Sailing from Whitsunday Island to Brampton Island, we had many opportunities to sharpen our tacking skills, battling the challenging weather down the coast. For a split moment we raced against champion yachts Virago, and Gusto . The very sleek Gusto was daringly spinnaker sailing up to Hamilton Island. The journey continued, tacking between the beautiful tropical islands, cracking 9 knots for periods of time with combined sail and engine.
Arriving at Brampton late afternoon, anchoring off the abandoned resort. Tides and the oncoming sunset prevented us from going ashore however provided an amazing opportunity to swim off the boat and kiss the mermaid figurehead. While watching the breathtaking sunset, a family pod of dolphins welcomed us to anchorage. The crew is now preparing for our final day of the voyage tomorrow. Oliver & Brendan
