Sunset Mornings & Sisterhood at Sea

We woke in Horseshoe Bay today,
To skies ablaze in orange display.
A hill fire painted dawn like art—
A sunset sunrise stole each heart.

Three Army boats sat stern and still;
“Have they come for us?” sparked nervous thrill.

Rana’s bacon, eggs, and cheer
Vanished fast—no leftovers here.
Then off for coffee, mugs held high,
Four caffeine-starved days to rectify.

Some found scoops of frozen bliss,
While Libby’s liquorice caused grimace after hiss.
“Your favourite?” Yes. “We’ll pass,” said we,
With dramatic faces for comedy.

Then island paths called every crew:
Shipwreck snorkels with waters blue;
Brewery tastings, op-shop delight—
Jess found a lime-green grass skirt bright.

Two Forts Walk teams set out with pride:
One spotted four koalas (or two… twice?) beside.
The other climbed seventy flights’ worth high,
Ten kilometres beneath the sky.

They crossed a stream not on the map,
Tried fake German to dodge a chat.
The joke backfired in comic style—
Their tourist answered auf Deutsch with a smile.

At Marlin Pub we gathered near,
Leon Zann shared Reef tales we’d hear.
Magnetic Island, ocean, sea—
His stories matched our curiosity.

Homeward bound, one final spark:
Two baby sharks—doo doo do do do—after dark.
A stubborn tender cowling too,
Still couldn’t spoil this joyful crew.

Today was laughter, smiles, and sea;
Tomorrow, Townsville—but tonight we’re “we.”
