REPORT: Red Watch
Today was a very special day. It was Keenan’s 18th Birthday! We had the midnight watch at 0001-0400 where we wrote down the bearings and finished off our books. Keenan got to sleep in for his birthday. We woke up again at 0630 to sing happy birthday to Keenan, had breakfast and headed straight to the knot competition, where we competed to win the single sheet bend, and failed miserably. When we tightened the rope, it kept coming undone and we ended up with a time of 1:57 and came last. We went on watch from 1000-1200 where we did our usual rotations with Magnus as the Bosun, and he did a great job (Red watchleader for Command day, maybe?). We also did a lot of tacking and headed for Havana Island.
We had lunch which were wraps with salad and salami/ham and then anchored at the island and took the dinghy to shore where we had an hour to chill on the beach. It was really nice weather contrasting to the journey to the island (it was very cold and windy and rainy) and we also saw a few whales. We raised the sails again and headed to Herald Island from 1500-1800. We were also on the Mainsail today. We anchored at Herald Island.
Fun fact: did you know that there are unexploded bombs on the island? It’s a ‘Military Training Area’ so unfortunately we cannot visit the island due to the danger sign on the beach. Next, we had dinner which was Butter Chicken, plus to Alex’s sadness, lots of vegetables. We had apple and blueberry Danish and custard for dessert, plus an extra surprise for Keenan. We all got around the table and sung happy birthday with chocolate cake that Charlotte, Bernie and Ryder decorated. We were also on shift from 1800-2000 where we set the bearings that will be used overnight until the next day.
In conclusion, today was a great day where red watch once again consolidated their gains. Another win for team red watch!
