REPORT: Blue Watch
Following the morning’s bugle call and cold breakfast, we began our day with a knot competition featuring the figure of eight knot, which Blue Watch won! After enjoying our lovely hot breakfast of bacon and eggs, we competed in a backstay competition in which Blue Watch was once again victorious.
It was all ‘hands on deck’ to raise the anchor manually in preparation to motor through the Hinchinbrook Channel. As we travelled through the channel, we experienced smooth sailing and beautiful blue skies, surrounded by lush greenery, where much to the Blue Watch Leader’s dismay no dinosaurs were spotted. While on watch, those who were on lookout had to keep an eye out for red and green buoys, announcing “On your left,” as we passed the green coloured markers.
Before reaching the end of the channel, we enjoyed a delicious lunch of pasta and cheesy bread thanks to our incredible cook. Before long we were raising the sails in preparation for approaching the end of the channel where we sailed past the longest sugar jetty in the Southern Hemisphere at Lucinda.
After a great improvement in conditions compared to the previous days, we arrived at Orpheus Island where we picked up a mooring in the beautiful, sunlit Pioneer Bay. We ended our day with a bowline competition where Red Watch came out on top; followed by a divine dinner of bangers and mash with gravy, which topped off the day.
