REPORT: White Watch
What a great Day! We sailed from Mourilyan Harbour to Dunk Island today starting at 9am. Before we left, we completed our cleaning and dishwashing duties – we also had a clove hitch knot tying competition which White watch won. We prepared and hoisted the sails with all hands on deck.
There was a strong South Easterly wind, so sailing was a bit more challenging; the ship was heeling majorly. The weather was rough on deck with intermittent rain and strong winds, so we had to take a bearing out to sea towards the coral cays. We then tacked to change our bearing to head south and eventually back South West towards Dunk Island. We saw a dolphin jumping alongside us in the waves!
As we arrived, we saw Cardwell town light up in the night and it was great to see the stars at night when there was no light pollution. There were also bioluminescent creatures on the waves which was so cool. Dinner was Chinese stir fried chicken followed by a delicious sticky date pudding for dessert. It rained, and people were very seasick as per usual, but the sun shone through it all and we all had fun singing songs, playing cards and stargazing.
