We left Thomas Island to go to Hills Inlet/Whitehaven Beach, so we are officially sailing in the Whitsundays. The weather was refreshing with a southerly wind behind us and a trailing sea. Along the way we encountered dolphins that crossed our bow.
We arrived at Whitehaven and did the short hike to the viewing platforms that felt like it was much further than explained. The tide was going out so the beach walk for a swim felt much longer. The walks were worth it though as the sun came out as soon as we got to the lookouts. The different shades of blue and powdery bright white sand made it memorable and picturesque.
We got back to South Passage just past twelve to “Hungry Hugh’s” our chef banquet lunch. Our sailing skills were tested today with raising, lowering and trimming sails to suit the conditions. Later in the afternoon we transited Hook passage and then headed into Nara inlet and anchored up for the night. Cape Gloucester passage awaits us tomorrow.
