REPORT: Red Watch
The members of Red Watch had to wake up at the early time of 2am and 3am. They produced answers in our journals for the list of definitions of the sailing terminology, learnt the boat knots which included the single sheet bend and the rolling hitch. In the morning, we started off the day with a bugle blast. It was a 6:30am start and we ate the oaty porridge, that was cooked up to absolute perfection by Hugh.
At 7am, all watches gathered together for the knotting competition. We all took turns where the reigning champions the red team took a massive blow.
Hot breakfast was served up. The food was multigrain toast with canned spaghetti and golden brown hash browns. Incredibly delicious as always.
We then proceeded to practice for the backstay competition. As we did the Royal Australian Airforce did a fly over, adding to the already well-built excitement on the ship. For the rest of the day, we sailed and had a watch from 10am to 12pm. During this we witnessed the beautiful creatures of the sea, the dolphins, gleaming in the crystal blue waters.
For dinner, the team ate cuisine straight from South Asia, the Indian continent. The watches ate traditional butter chicken with rice with a blueberry Danish and custard for dessert. Hugh talked to the group about “epistles” and their origins from the Latin subcontinent and how as a kid he studied classical Greek and Latin in school.
