REPORT: White Watch
This morning, we were greeted with a bright, crisp morning with a light breeze. Harboured in Urangan, we restocked water, fuel and threw out our trash that had accumulated over the last 4 days. We then had breakfast on the deck, eating our divine bacon and eggs as we watched the ducks dive and play in the dock. Once we were satisfied, we motored out of the dock into the open waters.
Somebody found a bugle, and some people decided to try and play it. Continuing our musical endeavours, our watch leader Russell lead us in learning a sea shanty to keep our spirits high and our hopes higher.
We raised the sails in record time to set off down the Great Sandy Strait. As we cruised down the channel, we took turns watching for buoys and markers indicating our location along the way. Soon, at about 2 pm, we stopped by one of Fraser Island’s breathtaking golden beaches. Many brave souls took a plunge down the side of the ship into the frigid turquoise depths below.
After drying off, we lowered our sails and motored down the Strait to Inskip Point, where we are now anchored. As the sun drew closer to the horizon and the light faded from the sky, tension built among the 18 eager travellers. The prestigious knot-tying competition was at hand. Fraying rope segments flew over the railing as each team pushed and pulled for the fastest time. White Watch emerged victorious.
The day began to wind down as the travellers were fed with bangers and mash as the sun dipped below the sea and the sky lit up orange then faded to indigo.
