CLIENT: Emmanuel College
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20260405
FROM: Gladstone To: Manly
POSITION: Lady Musgrave Is
DATE: 7 April 2026
REPORT: Red Watch
Our watch woke up approx 2am to complete our nightwatch shift. We collectively woke up at 6am to sail prep and hoist the sails. Our group switched from the foresail to the mainsail.
We had cold breakfast consisting of masterfully produced creamy porridge with raw honey, sweet brown sugar, organic grass fed cow milk cooked up by Hugh, with the optional 100% Whey Protein provided at the discourse of the man, the myth, the legend Jordan at 6:30. Hot breakfast was provided at 7:15am and incorporated whole grained healthy toast, silky smooth scrambled eggs, baked beans at a perfect consistency with a fresh parsley garnish cooked enthusiastically by chef Hugh.
Mr Jordan AL was democratically elected by her honour Deb Red Watchleader to uptake the significant role of the Red Watch Bosun (Pronounced, boss-man) and completed his role with extreme depth, fluency, dedication, efficiency, accuracy, confidence, high self-esteem, humbleness, imagination, courage, self-control, faith, hope, justice, wisdom, integrity, compassion, utmost care and et cetera.
From 10:00-12:00, The team collectively completed a cycle of roles that alternated approximately around every 15 mins. We successfully obtained our goal of lowering the mainsail with great dignity and astonishment. The steps included the following:
- Halyards: Flake (fore & aft, adjacent to the Coachhouse. 3 people)
- Positions: Halyards x 1 each, Downhaul x 1, Mainsheet x 1, Vangs x 2, Reefing Lines x 1 each
- Mainsheet: Haul in as ship comes up into the wind.
- Halyards: Take down to one turn and lower.
- Reefing Lines: Haul down (Unnecessary for today though)
- Downhaul: Haul down
- Vangs: Collect
- Mainsheet: Tighten sheet to control boom.
- Bridle: Put on before tidying up
- Tidying: Reefing Lines, Gaskets, Vangs, Mainsheet, Snotter, Downhaul, Backstays – both on.
For entertainment while we were busy at our roles, Jordan and Jamian sang songs and hymns to keep ourselves busy. For our lunch we ate delicious, gourmet, “the burgers are better at hungry Hughs” succulent beef burgers with crisp lettuce, juicy red tomato, caramelised onion, snappy carrots and red mouthwatering radishes.
We performed many knots and heaves and 2 6 heaves throughout the profoundly arduous journey. Many young strong red watch participants grew tired, however, they persevered. We saw a turtle on the way back from Lady Musgrave island.
We overlooked sea cucumbers that squirted unidentified gooey cream coloured substance on to our tan skins, crocs and reef shoes which were incredibly inconvenient to remove at Lady Musgrave Island and we went for a nature walk.
For dinner we had succulent premium quality beef stew and rice, once again, cooked up by Hugh the man, the myth, the legend. Dessert was sticky date pudding and custard. We held devotions on the upper deck and completed the compass bearings, and writing this beautiful masterpiece.
