REPORT: Red Watch
We were woken up at 6:30 to the sound of Venessa’s bugle playing, and afterwards, we had a knotting competition, where we did a reef knot, and a round turn, two half hitches All three watches tied. Then had breakfast, which was split into a cold, and hot serving. The cold breakfast was cereal, and the warm breakfast was scrambled eggs, toast, and baked beans. Afterwards, we participated in a backstay competition, and the red watch won, by a mile ;).
Today the red watch had main sail, the blue watch had the foresail and white watch had headsails. After the sail was raised, red was on watch first. During the role of standby helm, we plotted out positions on the deck chart to navigate our position accurately (using longitude and latitude). During their watch, the white group practised jibing.
Everyone had hamburgers for lunch, and most people played cards under the deck in their free time, or laid in the bowsprit net.
At around 3:30, we anchored at Tangalooma (Moreton Island). We climbed very high on the sand dunes, after getting to the beach via the dingy. After a couple of failed sleds down the sand dune, everyone had a wade in the shallow water.
After taking some pictures with the sunset in the back ground, we participated in another knot competition (figure of 8, and bowline), and the white watch, and the blue watch are currently tied in first place.
Finally, we enjoyed a beautiful dinner of bangers and mash, had a delicious berry cheesecake for dessert, and played some ukulele (mostly unsuccessfully), under the last signs of light over the horizon. Overall, we travelled from Macleay Island to Tangalooma over 20 nautical miles, in wonderful weather, and a smile on our faces.
