We woke up to a strong southerly wind at the sand hills off Moreton island. All night and morning the ship was rocking vigorously. We started the day off with breakfast: a continental breakfast (first breakfast) followed by a knot tying competition where we had to tie the figure eight knot and the reef knot. We were rewarded for our exceptional knot-tying skills with second breakfast – a hot breakfast served by our lovely cook, Cath.
After that we set sail in a southerly direction with various tacks. It was windy so we had two reefs in the mainsail and one on the foresail. We were on watch from 10-12 midday where we had to tend all three groups of sails, headsails, foresail and the mainsail. When we did the tacking we had to work as a team with Lawson as our bosun (student watch leader). We had hamburgers for lunch while under sail and arrived at Dunwich, North Stradbroke Island at about 2:30pm.
After we dropped anchor, we took the rubber duckie to the shore and walked to the main street of Dunwich where we bought snacks from the local supermarket. When we got back we had another rope competition where we had to do the bowline knot and we absolutely killed it, but other groups absolutely killed it more. For dinner we had bangers and mash. We are now leaving this log to stuff our faces with dessert.
