REPORT: Red Watch
Today we woke up for our midnight watch off Fraser Island. We learned to do bearings, to check the location of the ship and Snickers bars and hot chocolate made it easier. Then we went back to bed until 6:30am. A cold breakfast woke us up followed by a reef knot competition in which we came 2nd. We left the bay heading towards the south of Fraser. We hoisted the mainsail for the first time under the instruction of the Bosun (Bernie) and learned a vast array of skills.
We briefly went ashore for a quick swim and a hike to the “Z” force base. While were there, we spotted a dingo where we displayed our professional wildlife protection skills. Whilst back on the ship we had lunch and raised the sails once again setting off to Hook Point. During our travel to Hook Point we won the Backstay competition in which all members had to participate in an operation. All of Red except for Jasper had a shower and a nap to regain our energy. We anchored at Hook Point and Jasper and Dangerous went for a swim.
Rampaging Red watch won the figure 8 competition with a ridiculously fast time of 13s. Dinner was served with some amazing Bangers and mash. Then we went on watch from 6-8pm, where we learned how to navigate through true and magnetic bearings, and now we’re writing this story.
