REPORT: Red Watch
Starting our day at 6:30 am, we woke up at the west of Hook Point with a beautiful sunrise and clear skies. We set sail around 8:00 am, hoisting halyards and main sails. With the first watch session from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, we rotated through roles across the ship during the journey able strengthening our skills across different tasks. Later, we ate spaghetti Bolognese for lunch after our shift.
Anchoring at a Mackenzie’s Jetty, we used a tender to move back and forth between the boat and beach. Once at shore, members enjoyed the clear and calm waters whilst a group navigated to the Z Force Commando Camp from World War II. We manually raised the anchor and flaked the ropes. Moreover, we played various card games while waiting for our next watch to start. Additionally, there was a bowline knot tying competition which was won by red watch.
The mainsail was taken down in the afternoon, and dinner was served at 5:30. Our meal was comprised of chicken stir fry and sticky date pudding for dessert. Our last watch that day was from 6pm-8pm. After dinner we gathered in the main cabin area to discuss the transition from practice to the qualifying journey.
