REPORT: White Watch
First Channel 9 tv crew recorded us boarding and Robyn telling us about South Passage. Once on the ship, we unloaded our things and got comfortable with our sleeping arrangements. We had a safety briefing and learnt the basics of how the ship works. The crew taught us the different parts of the ship and where the muster points are, learning how to number each other off for our safety.
Once we set sail everyone helped to put up the sails and steer. We completed a man overboard drill practising how to recover someone who has fallen off the ship. Once smoothly sailing, red group began watch at 11 and ended watch at 12. In our groups, we had lunch with white group beginning their watch at 12. The white group started watch and tacked the sails to change direction. We tacked multiple times and the wind was strong.
When we arrived at Moreton Island, we lowered the sails and anchored the ship. We went on a land excursion on the island and went swimming and sand tobogganing before returning back to the sail. Once we were back on the ship, we learnt how to tie some knots. Watch leaders taught us the round turn and two half hitch knots. We learnt about the back stays and practiced in pairs. We did a knotting competition, had dinner and then white group went on watch again. We saw whales and a dolphin when sailing. We will go to bed and wake up early for your next watch at 4:00am.
