REPORT: Red Watch
We woke up today to a beautiful sunrise, the clouds were painted an amazing gold and purple above the scenic Big Woody Island. We had a cold breakfast; it was the best start to our day being able to eat our cold breakfast at sunrise 6:30 AM. During the knotting competition we competed to do the figure of eight knot and the reef knot the fastest and best, we ever so gracefully failed to come first, as the competition was vast.
Then we came down to have our hot gourmet breakfast of scrambled eggs and baked beans on toast, provided by our talented, beautiful cook Louise. After breakfast, we returned to the deck for a quick paced backstay competition, where we took off the backstays before putting them back on.
We set sail into winds that exceeded 20 knots, as the wind filled the sails and the swell grew, we had the most exciting time of our lives. Unfortunately, there were a lot of people that fell seasick as the boat rocked from one side to the other. Another problem with the wind was that it blew away essential and precious items. When the hat went overboard, we had a good laugh however when it was the soccer ball, we had to tender out to rescue it. All of those troubles went away as we dropped the sail ready to drop the anchor at a sandy island so that we could have an afternoon swim.
The highlight of the afternoon was seeing whales and dolphins breaching through the waves and saying hello to us as they wave with their tails. There was even a young calf with their mother. As we set into the sunset, the final knotting competition took place, the bowline. This time red watch came through victorious!! We ended the day with scrumptious meal of the day, sausages, mash, vegies and gravy with yummy cheesecake.
