The best part of the day was definitely getting to sleep in, thanks to our kind and thoughtful watch leader. Since we’d already finished all our theory work in the Blue Book, he gave us a break and even said we looked peaceful while sleeping. The rest was just what we needed and helped set a good tone for the day.
After waking up feeling refreshed, we got ready for the trip from Palm Island to Horseshoe Bay. Eli was bosun for the day and did a great job handling the mainsail. It was a windy ride, with gusts up to 20 knots. Still, by working together as a team, we were able to manage and do several tacks to stay on course toward Magnetic Island.
Meals kept us going throughout the day. Breakfast was eggs, sausages, and toast which was just what we needed before heading out. Lunch was spaghetti, and the day ended with a tasty beef stew and fresh veggies for dinner.
We also had a couple of knot-tying competitions. We won the first one in the morning, which felt great, and in the afternoon, we just missed out by 20 seconds. Everyone still had fun, and the friendly competition brought us closer.
One cool moment was spotting a turtle swimming nearby; it reminded us how amazing the ocean really is. All in all, it was a fun and eventful day, made even better by that extra sleep we got in the morning.
