REPORT: Red Watch
This morning red watch woke up at midnight to complete our 0001-0400 watch, then the rest of the crew woke up at 6:30 to have breakfast and doing a reef knot competition (which red watch destroyed the other watches in) while preparing for a 3.7km return hike to the abandoned lighthouse on Fitzroy Island.
The walk was slow due to the wet and windy weather as well as the steep climb up the hills. Once we reached the top, we got pictures and videos of the view despite it being covered in cloud, followed by a group picture before returning to the bottom. On the tender ride back, we spotted a large orange coloured blubber jellyfish in the water.
Finally, a little bit of sun and blue sky appeared while we did our backstay competitions which red watch performed exceptionally well in. However, soon after we decided to set sail around the island the high wind speeds and overcast weather conditions returned. Red watch was on the main sail which is the large back sail near the helm/skipper. As the wind picked up, we helped the other watches with tacking on the head sail in order to be able to turn easily.
Towards the end of the sail the rain started to set in with strong winds causing the ship to heel over a lot forcing us to bring the ship back in to anchor. We then finished off the day with some knot tying competition tonight knot being the figure of 8 knot, before having dinner of bangers and mash.
