Today was the first day of sailing training. We learned a multitude of things throughout the day. Starting in the morning, we started with the basics such as learning to belay ropes and tie knots. This morning, our watch was assigned to hoist the main sail. Throughout our day we did five tacks, which was to sail diagonally into the wind and change direction.
We arrived at Fitzroy Island at half past two. We all explored the beach, except for the people who were sick. Some sailors experienced sea sickness as the weather was quite windy and therefore the seas were rough.
After returning to our ship after visiting Fitzroy Island, we were taught to do a round turn and two half stitches and proceeded to compete against other watches. We also worked the backstays which allows the sails to move easily.
