We got up before sunrise to prepare for leaving the port. We spent the morning watching the sunrise as the skipper led the ship out. We had an early breakfast before going out to learn how to raise the sails. The three groups took turns in two-hour shifts to monitor the ship and steer it. We took that time to socialize and learn more about the ship.
That afternoon, we enjoyed a quick lunch before learning how to put the sails down and anchored the ship near an island. We swam (or took a small boat) out to the island. The people that swam jumped from the ships railing into the salty water. When you jumped in the salty water instantly invaded your mouth. We all swam in a group taking time to cool off in the refreshing water. The island was rocky and full of gorgeous seashells. We spent time jumping from rock to rock and admiring the seashells. Some of us climbed up huge rocks before swimming back to the ship.
We spent the rest of the afternoon pulling up the anchor and doing more watch shifts. Finally, as the sun began to set we finished dinner and had our first night shifts with the stars in the sky.
