CLIENT: General Public Voyage
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20250513
FROM: Hervey Bay To: Manly
DATE: 13 May 2025
POSITION: Rooney Point
REPORT: White Watch
We departed Urangan Harbour Hervey Bay in a fresh South Easterly breeze. Outside the Harbour Phil called a man overboard drill and the dan buoy went overboard. Under engine we turned to pick it up which went pretty smoothly. We then deployed the sling with the blocks to practice hauling out a man overboard.
After a quick debrief we hoisted the sails, one at a time and then turned downwind for the fairway mark, under engine with the sails in tight. Turning around the mark we headed for K’gari on a reach and we were flying along at 10 knots and up to 11. This got us to the tip of the island in around 3 hours. Down sails and we anchored at Rooney Point.
Despite the rain, some people opted to go to shore in the dingy. Rough waves on the shore got several people very wet. Thomas spotted a dingo with his handy binoculars. Luke found a lure and some crew picked up some rubbish to bring back to the boat.
A knotting competition at 1700 saw some shocking round turn and two half hitches but Blue pulled through with a perfect score. Another great dinner by Hugh and we settled in for the night.
