As the bugle began to rain out through the cabins below deck. The start of the day had begun. The first competition was 1 hour away. Teams practicing reef and figure of 8 knots. While eating their cold breakfast. Each team discussing strategies to win the competition.
0730
Red winning with a time of 32 seconds on figure 8 knots and Blue team winning the reef knot competition.
0800
The smell of warm eggs and beans flooded the air. It was time for warm breakfast. Teams gathered at the dining table to enjoy their warm food and prepare for the long day of sailing ahead.
0830
The second competition began. The backstay. Teams gathered in 2 groups of 3 preparing to assemble and removing the elements of the backstay. Red winning the first round. Followed by wins from white and blue. Ending the competition in a draw.
0900
Each bosun (team leader) organising their troops to complete their tasks to allow the ship to set off for adventure around Moreton Bay. We hoisted the mainsail and foresail. Ready for the captain’s approval to set sail.
1000 – 1400
Each team taking a shift to complete the necessary tasks to allow the ship to travel around the Moreton Bay region. Each bosun rotating each member off the team every 15 minutes. This put us in unique and challenging scenarios. Such as tacking and gybing across the water requiring increases and decreases in tension on the ropes. Sweating to control tension and unique knots to control each element of the sails.
1500
The 3 teams arrived at Tangalooma dropping anchor shortly after 1500. Each team complete their own tasks to allow the ship to stay another night. As the afternoon began each group prepared to depart in the tender at 1530.
1530
Splash! The tender departs South Passage. First time on land in 46 hours. As the tender pulled into shore the rush from the first 5 travellers began. Pip and Liv fighting to get to shore first. Pip slips and falls into the water. Soaked, pip rushes up the sand dune in the distance. Sprinting through the bucketing rain. While each other group began entering the shore the red team began following pip up the dunes. With Will and Abby reaching the summit of the dune first. As many people reached the top of the dune the race down began. Running through the rain each team began travelling down the dune. In first place, Ethan “Smiley” Huang. Followed closely behind by Liv and Pip reaching the beach surface.
1630
As each team began departing on the tender the setup for dinner began. Everyone having a quick shower and getting dressed into their pyjamas ready for dinner.
1730
The smell of dinner became clear around the cabin. As the galley filled people began enjoying their delicious sausages and mash potato. Gathering around the dinner table small board games began around the cabin. The variety of games was vast from Uno to “Taco, Cat, Goat, Cheese, Pizza”.
1830
The cleanup after dinner began. The fifth member of each group in charge of cleanup. While the others were cleaning up. The remaining members prepared for bed.
1915
The galley filled again with the goal of getting the best slice of cheesecake. Each member of the cabin lining up to receive their cheesecake.
2000
Everyone in the cabin began winding down for bed, for lights out at 2100. As everyone began to brush their teeth and their complete skincare routines and lay down in bed. Preparing for the day ahead.
