South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Bronze Duke of Ed

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20250413

FROM: Manly To: Manly

DATE: 13 April 2025

POSITION: Big Sandhills, Moreton Is

REPORT: White Watch

Anticipation was in the air as we stepped foot on the docks. Our group of 18 youths were about to embark on a lifechanging adventure.
We were first introduced to the ship, the South Passage, as we were guided through the basic sailing principles such as tacking (turning the ship through the wind), raising sails, and memorising the endless list of knots (whether we liked it or knot). We were split into different watches – red, white, blue – groups of six that rotated between stations to ensure the ship functioned properly.
Day one saw the beginning of tacking practise which took place in the Moreton Bay region, challenging all three watches on their ability to successfully turn a ship by undergoing various sailing techniques. Thankfully, our fine motor skills were on point as we did not lose anyone overboard.
We set anchor off the coast of the Big Sand Hills and relaxed for the evening, which included a swim, an Uno game and a delicious dinner supplied by the awesome ship’s cook. Throughout the day, it was great to meet new people, as well as learn the basics of sailing. We look forward to another great day tomorrow!
