South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20220816

FROM: Townsville to Mackay

DATE: 20 August 2022

POSITION: Shaw Is, Whitsundays

REPORT BY: Red Watch

Red Watch started the day early with watch duties from midnight to 4am. Most of us were suffering lack of sleep after finding it difficult to settle after Friday night’s frivolities – all due to the surprise challenge set by our very own Red Watch Leader, Russell. Who would have guessed what stunning fashion creations could result from 6 sheets of newspaper! We would like to elaborate but what happens on South Passage stays on South Passage (imagine mermaids, Hawaiian maidens and High School fashion!).

Our day was equally impressive with unexpected winds giving us a magnificent sunny day of ‘champagne’ sailing, with a few glimpses of whales and dolphins. With 15 knot winds and South Passage reaching a max of 8.5 knots, all watches had the chance to practice tacking in preparation for expected stronger winds over our final two days. We anchored at Lindeman Island allowing shore parties to walk or swim. We then moved on to our overnight anchorage at Shaw Island. Another “absolute cracker of a day”, in the words of our esteemed skipper Chris. Red Watch: Linda, Helene, Sven, Nicholas, Bruce.
