POSITION: Big Sandhills, Moreton Is

REPORT: Red Watch

We woke up at 6 o’clock today, (apart from SOMEONE who was snoring) we shook them awake, went upstairs and had a really yummy breakfast. At 9:40 am we set sail for the Big Sandhills on Morton Island. We all got a turn at steering the ship, on the way to the sand dunes. We also learnt how to use a map, using nautical miles and a compass.
It was such a trek to the sand dunes as the dingy could only get us so far. We found bones, crabs, wedgetail eagles, and water species such as a shovel nose shark, turtles, and stingrays. Once we finally arrived at the dunes we began the hike to the top. Gemma and Maddi attempted to double on the boogie board and failed as they sped down the hill and then tumbled while clinging for their lives into a huge pile of sticks. After proceeding to laugh themselves to death, they ran to the water to wash the sand out of their faces and everywhere else, it was so funny. Another incident from the dunes was when Rowon tumbled down the dune… multiple times and walked away with sand up his nose after snorting the sand. While this was happening, Tilly took herself for a waddle around the island. After the dunes, we all went for a swim in the beach, the water was so warm… and shallow.
Once back on board, we had a few sailing skill competitions, had bangers and mash for dinner, and a yummy dessert. Right now, at the moment of typing, we are sitting below deck, the damp towels swaying above our heads, chatter surrounds us and card games are being played. It has begun to rain so we had to close the skylight, we’ll see how the weather is tomorrow.
