CLIENT: Youth Voyage
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20250114
FROM: Manly To: Manly
DATE: 14 January 2025
POSITION: Big Sandhills, Moreton Is
REPORT: White Watch
Today, we got to the jetty at 0830 to board the ship and set sail. We learned the basic safety measures and how to tie different knots in preparation for our later competition. Then all the watches and crew helped to put up the sails. We found this quite challenging as most of us had never done this before, however it was a great learning opportunity, and we now feel much better prepared for the coming days.
Then it was time for our first official watch. We got to complete multiple manoeuvres, involving backstays and vangs. The entire crew got to jump off the ship and into the ocean which everyone thoroughly enjoyed. After getting back in and having showers, white watch competed against the other two watches, red and blue, in a rope tying competition. Although we lost, we put up a valiant effort and are ready to come back for tomorrow’s competition.
Lastly we had dinner which the amazing chef Cath made. It consisted of marinaded chicken, vegetables and rice with a generous helping of gravy on top. For dessert we ate chocolate mud cake and sang Cath happy birthday! Hooray!
