CLIENT: GPV Voyage
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20250104
FROM: Sydney To: Manly
DATE: 4 January 2025
POSITION: Patonga Beach, Hunter River
REPORT: White Watch
We began the day by being woken up by the bugle at 6am, we then had cold breakfast in our watches, as we motored from the wharf to near the Sydney Opera house where we had our hot breakfast. We then raised the sails on the mainsail and then sailed down to Rose Bay where we practiced tacking along the harbour between Shark Island and Kirribilli.
We had lunch and then went on watch at 12pm where we tacked our way down to the harbour towards the heads and sailed out through the heads on port tack and started our journey along the coast to Patonga.
Once we anchored, we swam, had showers and had dinner, ready to go to bed early tonight. The weather cloudy in the morning and got sunny as we left the harbour with clear skies all afternoon. The relatively flat sea enabled the watch to get used to ocean sailing without too many ill effects.
Following dinner, we had a short talk about the importance of housekeeping in our living quarters. Overall, everyone enjoyed the day and learning the way to raise, lower and sail the ship through the water to be able to reach our desired destination at the right time.
