CLIENT: Churchie Year 10
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20241118
FROM: Manly To: Manly
DATE: 19 November 2024
POSITION: Southport
REPORT: Red Watch
For the second day of our voyage, we started our day very early at just after midnight for around an hour for our night watch, where we consolidated our newly acquired knowledge of knots and key features of the ship, taking around an hour. After another five hours sleep, we woke up at 6:15 for our cold breakfast, then competed in our morning knot competition, then had hot breakfast of scrambled eggs and baked beans on toast.
After another rest, we had our main watch shift from 10am to 12pm, where we rotated through key lookout and navigation positions around the ship. These included the ‘Helm’ (being the skipper steering the ship), the ‘standby helm’, ‘Port Lookout’, Standby Port Lookout’, ‘Deck Check’, and ‘Starboard Lookout’. In a rotation over the two hours, we worked together to navigate the ship from our starting point from yesterday not too far from Manly, a fair way down on our path to Southport. The conditions were overcast with strong winds which picked up throughout the day and it started to rain in the early afternoon.
After our shift, the day mostly consisted of relaxing either sleeping in our bunks or having chats amongst each other over a game of cards. For lunch we had hamburgers and for dinner we had bangers and mash. The experience today was more relaxed but also a great mix of sailing fun and valuable socialising, where the food was great as always.
