South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Training Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20241020

FROM: Coffs Harbour To: Manly

DATE: 21 October 2024

POSITION: Wave Break Is

REPORT: Red Watch

The Right Handed Rampaging Red’s started the Day at Midnight on Watch.  Larry, Libby, Rachael and our incredible Watch Leader Russell sitting in the Gallery going through our Booklets of training.  We were lucky to be let off easy on Watch by 2am so we got a bit more sleep.

Up at 6.  The day looked better than the day before.  We came out of the Heads of Yamba to the rolling sea’s, 3 metre swell, blowing 20-30 knots.  South Passage was in her glory getting up to 13 knots at times.  We knew we had a big day ahead with our ETA being around midnight at the Gold Coast but the winds were with us.  Libby decided we needed at good holiday and wanted SP to have more speed so was navigating us towards New Caledonia at times.

Only a couple of whales today but lots of dolphins. We learnt a fun fact today from Flying Doctor that all ropes are right-handed, which is so sad for lefties.

We had to drop the Mainsail on the run and on dusk.  Phosphorescence was sparkling like diamonds in the night sea with no moon.  Being on Watch a night is spectacular.  The peace, the stars.

Anchored behind Wave Break Island around 10pm.  Sensational Day Sailing On South Passage.
