South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: St Johns College Lismore

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20241015

FROM: Manly To: Coffs Harbour

DATE: 16 October 2024

POSITION: En route to Yamba

REPORT: Red Watch

Departed Southport at 0915 hrs, currently travelling on a heading of 210, at roughly 8 kts. South westerly wind with calm seas. We are on our way to Yamba (ETA 2400 hrs, around 40nm out). At least half of those on board have sea sickness after exiting Southport into open ocean, once in the open ocean we saw a few large whale breaches.

Started the day with rope tying competitions, tying an around turn and two half hitches. In watches we also raced against each other two watches in the backstay competition. Around halfway through the voyage. Cloudy and overcast for most of the day, mainland was hard to make out. All of the meals have been well received by all and dessert has been amazing.

Today is the longest day of our voyage as we will be sailing for roughly 15 hours. When it was time to pull up the anchor, we all sung a sea shanty while we rotated the winch to lift the anchor. This will be our first night at sea, and we are hoping everyone will be able to sleep and have no sickness in the cabins. We are looking forward to tomorrow and excited to anchor tonight.
