CLIENT: Silver Youth Voyage
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20240917
FROM: Manly To: Hervey Bay
DATE: 20 September 2024
POSITION: Platypus Bay
REPORT: White Watch
Today we woke up at 0630 and departed Big Woody at around 0730-0800. For breakfast we had bacon and eggs, toast, porridge and cereal cooked by the amazing Cath. White watch started the day 4 watch from 0100-0400 checking the bearings of nearby beacons and buoys, Blue watch then took over from 0400-0800 and Red from 0800-1000 during the normal routine watches.
For day four’s knot tying comp the bowline was the knot tied in the morning, with blue watch taking the win. Next was the clove hitch with white watch carrying the win for the 4th time (the bowline loss was just a fluke).
For the majority of the day, we did sailing practice for the command day, this consisted of one watch tacking on the port and starboard side. With a few minor mistakes we picked ourselves up and had some pretty good tacks. For lunch we had scrumptious chicken burritos on rough water and choppy winds. Then, for dinner we had delicious, mashed potatoes, roast pumpkin, peas, and curried beef, followed by a delightful fruit salad with cream/custard for dessert.
In the evening, we held an election to determine who will be the skipper, sail master, navigator and watch leaders for command day. During the day we saw multiple whales and a few dolphins.
