For others of us still learning that dark craft of helming, sailing to the wind was an opportunity that we enjoyed and benefited from.

South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20240821

FROM: Rosslyn Bay To: Hervey Bay

DATE: 23 August 2024

POSITION: Bundaberg

REPORT: White Watch

This morning, after knot-tying, bacon and eggs, and cleaning duties, crew were directed to prepare sails for departure from Lady Musgrave Island by 0830 hrs, to head to Bundaberg, directly south of Lady Musgrave Island.

Wind was from the south, and sailing time was predicted to be ten hours.  The ship sailed at around seven knots in light winds throughout the day. At one stage, a pod of whales that were breaching and playing alongside at a distance provided smiles, excitement and photo opportunities.

Late afternoon, as the ship headed in calm seas towards Port Bundaberg, the sails were lowered. This was followed by an absolutely delicious beef casserole and roast vegetables prepared again by our expert cook, Stephen Shears. What a beautiful day.
