South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20240821

FROM: Rosslyn Bay To: Hervey Bay

DATE: 23 August 2024

POSITION: Lady Musgrave Is

REPORT: Blue Watch

The morning started at 5.45am with a rousing rendition of Rause. Sails were prepped after a quick cold breakfast and anchors away at 6.25am.

A beautiful clear day welcomed us as we made our course towards Lady Musgrave Island. We dodged the HM Golden Eagle registered in the tax haven of Panama. The cargo was a gift of our natural resources to lands far away. A wonderful photo opportunity for the many enthusiast photographers onboard. Under stunning blue skies we threaded South Passage into the blue lagoon.

The tender ferried passengers ashore for the various adventures of snorkelling, circumnavigating the island, trekking through the jungle of the interior with a cacophony of a thousand nesting seabirds, and we saw them at every “tern”. Marine life included a tiger cowrie shell, a variety of colourful banded sea snakes, numerous varieties of reef fish, turtles, sea cucumbers, starfish and a large wobbegong shark.

All were ferried back on board for the rope competition and then the al fresco restaurant was opened at 6pm with Chinese chicken & rice followed by cheesecake on the menu. With every seat the best seat in the house, a backdrop of a stunning sunset, it doesn’t get much better than today… until tomorrow.
