CLIENT: General Public Sail & Walk
VOYAGE NUMBER: 20240806
FROM: Airlie Beach To: Airlie Beach
DATE: 6 August 2024
POSITION: Nara Inlet, Hook Is
REPORT: White Watch
On a cracking winter’s day, the majestic South Passage commenced another epic journey of discovery, learning, growth and fun. After an important safety briefing from our illustrious sailing master, it was anchor’s away as we headed from the safety of the Coral Sea marina to explore the turquoise blue waters. The coaching, leadership and encouragement provided by the volunteers and watch leaders ensured the eager public crew members successfully mastered the hoisting of sails, flaking of lines and adjusting sheets.
The sense of freedom and exhilaration as we made our way north easterly (ish) was further enhanced by the frequent sighting of whales as they shared their ocean playground with us.
Anchoring into Nara Inlet for the evening we settled into the culinary feast of a hearty chicken stir fry and rice. Just when you didn’t think the first day at sea could get any better, we were seduced with apple pie and custard and soothed with the musical talents of our happy ukelele players.
