We learnt how to hoist sails and steer the ship from the Helm and some cheeky short cuts on knot tying.  We had a knot tying competition, which was fun and we are looking forward to winning the knot tying competition tomorrow.

South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: General Public Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20240730

FROM: Townsville To: Airlie Beach

DATE: 30 July 2024

POSITION: Cape Cleveland

REPORT: White Watch

First day was a blast.  Wind was high, sea was rougher than expected.

We left Townsville 9am on Tuesday 30/7/24 and made our way to Cape Bowling Green, mostly under sail.  We were all allocated a Watch and had our Safety briefing.

South Passage was larger than we expected when we first saw her and the Crew was a bit smaller than expected on board.  Mitch being from Canada, knew nothing about Sailing at all before getting onboard but was very keen to learn sailing skills.  Anastasiya is from the Ukraine was all smiles with this adventure underway but suffered a little seasickness first up.  She came good after being on the helm and help hoisting the sails. Rachael, a local from Townsville, was seemingly excited as she had been on South Passage over 20 years ago.

It was an amazing first day.  We were led by our Team Leader Harbo (Dave) who has so much knowledge of sailing.  We learnt how to hoist sails and steer the ship from the Helm and some cheeky short cuts on knot tying.  We had a knot tying competition, which was fun and we are looking forward to winning the knot tying competition tomorrow.  Sunset was incredible.  Cath in the Galley made a delicious and dinner including dessert.  So we are all happy and ready for rest and day 2.

We all knew no one coming on board, but already at the end of our first day we are becoming a sailing family until 4am Watch.
