FROM: Cairns To: Cairns

DATE: 17 June 2024

POSITION: Michaelmas Reef

REPORT: Blue Watch

We started the day off with Luke not being able to blow the bugle and Josh just using some annoying whistle, though Luke did end up blowing the bugle correctly after like 100 tries. After cold breakfast we did a backstays competition. It was very amusing watching Pa’ton and Annabelle run to the Bow instead of the stern to lose the practice race. We had a very close rope tying competition (clove hitch) with a dead heat between Red and White.

We then sailed from Sudbury at 10:30 and arrived at Michaelmas Reef at 15:30 tacking and learning how to gybe along the way very successfully. After we anchored, we all got ready for a quick snorkel where we got to see many beautiful species of coral and fish. Having fish swim up right beside us from the boat to when we got out and swam alongside turtles. It was a very fun and exciting experience.

While waiting for dinner, Mr Wyatt introduced us to many of Mr Weavers riddles. The hardest being “From, To, Via.” Though we spent a long-time sailing, we still managed to do a lot of extra stuff and had a lot of fun, at Michaelmas Reef.
