FROM: Townsville To: Cairns

DATE: 12 June 2024

POSITION: Fitzroy Is

REPORT: White Watch

We left Mourilyan Harbour this morning and raised the sails, hoping to make use of the 13 knot winds. The ship tacked and we were leaning over with the power of the wind… for a very short time. We headed for Fitzroy Island, steered in by Dallas, past Nudey Beach (where no-one was in the Nudey), and dropped anchor just off the Fitzroy Jetty. The skipper went for a walk to the lighthouse, whilst the students snorkelled and saw turtles and parrot fish, angelfish, clams, rainbow fish, and drank virgin pina coladas from Foxy’s bar.

We had a clove-hitch tying competition and we ended the day jumping off the ship and climbing up to kiss the mermaid on the bow.  Our trusty chef Hugh cooked a delicious lunch and dinner once again. We remain at anchor off the beautiful Fitzroy island for our last night on the ship, with bellies full of peaches & custard.
