VOYAGE NUMBER: 20240609
FROM: Townsville To: Cairns
DATE: 11 June 2024
POSITION: Mourilyan Harbour
REPORT: Blue Watch
We started the morning off by eating a delectable breakfast to be energised for the day by a lovely sunrise over the water. The morning then led to us to doing the bowline knot competition ‘we won’ we say.
In groups we travelled to Dunk Island on the Dinghy. Some of us headed off on a walk over the Island to see the beautiful view on the other side of the island. While the rest of us swam in clear waters of the beach. Other activities included resting on the sand, relaxing and jetty jumping.
Group by group we went back to the ship to end our stay with a jump off the boat and a kiss to the mermaid (statue on the bobstay). Following by scrumptious lunch of spaghetti bolognaise and salad. As a team we raised the anchor onto the boat. As we waved to Dunk Island we raised the sails and set out onto the open seas.
As blue watch had some time off our watch we caught up on some sleep, read, practice our knots and stared out into the horizon. At around two we prepared the sails for lowering and as a team we worked together to lower them due to the lack of wind. Thanks to our watch leader we then learnt how to do the backstay.
We headed into Mourilyan Harbour dropping off some of our rubbish at the sugar wharf and then we anchored the boat in the harbour. The backstay competition then took place with us remaining victorious over the other teams. Hugh the chef finished preparing our dinner of fresh shark which we caught the day prior. We ate yet again another beautiful sunset.
