FROM: Townsville To: Townsville

DATE: 2 June 2024

POSITION: Orpheus Is

REPORT: Red Watch

We hoisted the sails, and headed north, leaving Horseshoe Bay and sailing at a cracking 9.3 knots. Into the blue of the sky and the deep green of the sea we sailed, heeling and turning and wending through the islands.

One at a time, we went up to the helm and had a grand old time learning our ways from our Skipper, Chris, before pausing at Falcon Island for a swim and a wander. Ambling and swimming about, we found sheds, shells, coral, fish, and clams.

Back on board, we headed north past scattered islands, coming up past Fantome Island which was once a leper colony, and arriving at beautiful Orpheus Island in the afternoon. Once again, we hit the water in search of giant clams and coral.

Possibly due to the recent devastating floods and weather events in North Queensland, the area around Yanks Jetty didn’t live up to expectations. Members of our party who have visited in the past reported massive clams, but sadly only small ones were sighted this time.

After another delicious meal by Cath, we went up to gaze at the night sky.
