South Passage Daily Report

CLIENT: Bronze Youth Voyage

VOYAGE NUMBER:  20211001

FROM: Manly to Manly

DATE: 1 October 2021

POSITION: Horseshoe Bay, Peel Is

REPORT BY: Blue Watch

Today was the first day and many of us boarded and set ourselves up in our bunks and familiarised ourselves with the other people on board.  After that we gathered in our watch groups and learnt the basics we were ready to set sail.  Blue watch was assigned to bow and we raised the jib and staysail.  It is a lot of effort to pull on the ropes to hoist the sails.  Once the sails were hoisted and we were on our way to Peel Island we could relax we got to know our watch.

Lunch was salad rolls and it was the first meal we had on the ship.  After lunch we had our first watch where we learnt the basics to tacking and we were the only group who did a gybe and all the crew on board say it was the best with even the skipper giving us brownie points.  After doing a few more tacks we came into Horseshoe Bay and pulled the sails down.

Everyone got into their bathers and after many ‘ferry’ trips we were all on shore going for a swim on Peel Island.  We came back and had our first dinner on board and got to know the crew a bit better.  After relaxing a short storm came in and water came through the open hatches but was fixed fast and we started a second watch that went from 2000-2400 luckily we got to knock off a 10:30 and have a good sleep.
